This is not intended to replace installation manual. Please read
and understand the installation manual fully before attempting
installation.
Carefully lay out all parts for inspection and identification. This
will give you the overview needed of how each part interfaces and fits
together. Ultimately it will save you installation time and energy.
GENERAL:
Ford Motor Company trucks mounting a 7.3 Navistar Diesel Engine are
conveniently equipped with a 1/2" pipe plug on the filter housing
that is used to receive the output line from the PRE-LUBER. This
allows all oil removed from the oil pan to be filtered by the engine's
filter before Pre- and Post-Lubrication pressurization. Many thanks to
Zane Vorheese of Smithsburg, MD for sharing with us this technical
information.
STEPS:
- Locate filter and housing under truck.
- Remove filter and with mirror, locate the 1/2" plug on the
filter housing on the side facing the front of the truck.
- Take 1/2" ratchet wrench with long extension and remove the
plug. Replace with 90 degree 1/2" elbow. Add 1/2" to
1/4" reducer (local purchase).
- Locate the 1/4" hose connector in the PRE-LUBER kit
hardware box. Install the 1/4" hose connector into the free
end of the PRE-LUBER's output hose. Connect other end to pump
output port connector.
- Angle the output hose down from the PRE-LUBER pump mounted in
the engine compartment and run the hose along the left side of the
frame. Keep the hose a safe stance away from the exhaust manifold
and carefully route it into the filter housing's 1/4"
reducer. Tighten this hose fitting as directed in the Owner's
Manual.
- Install wire harness, complete remaining system checks, install
fresh oil filter and add sufficient engine oil.
- Initiate PRE-LUBER Pre-Lubrication function. Ensure oil pressure
light goes out & oil pressure gauge is in safe pressure zone
before starting engine.
- Set Post-Lubrication time function, zero seconds to 5 minutes.
