1.
Select the pump mounting location.
1.1 Mount the pump to the left frame rail, (driver side) adjacent
to the starter motor, using 2 grade #5, 5/16" x 1" bolts.
This location will make the scavenge (suction) hose length about as
short as possible (less than 16" long including the fitting and
slack to compensate for engine torque).
1.2 Mount the pump with the "inlet" and
"outlet" ports pointed down in order to clear other engine
"plumbing" in this location.
1.3 Install the two 90 degree fittings (furnished) in the pump
ports after removing the plastic shipping plugs. This will provide
maximum ground clearance and a clean installation.
1.4 Install the pressure line first paying attention to how and
where you wish to make future oil changes (inside the engine
compartment/outside of it). Make it as safe and as easy as possible to
accomplish.
**Reason: The pressurized line will probably be the longer of the
two lines. If the installer is not careful and uses too much of the 9
feet of hose provided in the kit for the scavenger hose from the pan,
he may need to purchase an additional piece.
1.5 Install the pressure line at the oil filter location as
follows:
- Remove the existing 1/8" pipe plug (adjacent to the
Turbocharger supply line)
- obtain and install a 1/8" x 1 1/2" brass pipe nipple
(not furnished)
- Then using the 1/8 x 1/4 bushing (furnished), connect the female
portion of the quick coupler directly to the nipple/ bushing
assembly; adequate space for easy operation of the
quick-disconnect coupler is now available.
- Install the male portion of the quick-disconnect coupler in one
end of the pressure hose.
- Leave sufficient hose length (slack) for simplified oil changes
at your selected location.
1.6 Route the pressure hose as follows:
- From the oil filter to the top of the radiat fan shroud,
- Across the front of the shroud and down the left side of the
shroud to the automatic transmission auxiliary cooler lines near
the front of engine,
- Back to the PRE-LUBER pump, allowing slack for engine torque.
- Secure the hose with nylon tie straps.
- Drill a 3/16" hole near the edge of and near the center of
the left vertical edge of the radiator shroud to accommodate a tie
strap. This will prevent the hose from coming in contactwith the
fan.
- Use the two furnished tie straps and fashion loops to fasten the
hose in place on top of the shroud. Leave enough slack in theses
two tie straps to allow the hose, including the male portion of
the quick-disconnect coupler, to slip through them easily. This is
done for oil changing purposes. This hose slack will not cause
hose/fan contact problems.
2.
Mounting the oil pan scavenge hose is self explanatory.
2.1 Per Note 4 in the Installation Instruction Booklet - re:
install fittings in pre-heated hose. Heating the hose with an external
source (ie; hair dryer) cannot be emphasized enough. It makes this job
that much easier.
3.
Mounting of the Electronic Control Module (ECM)
3.1 Install the ECM on the left front fender near the left rear
corner of the battery box.
- The Black harness wire is long enough to attach it to the
negative battery terminal.
- Shorten the 16 gauge Red wire to reduce excess slack.
- Omit the large eyelet on the preconnected Orange wire. Obtain
from your auto parts store a 3-foot length of Orange wire and a
wire connector for connecting to the piece with the ECM
connector(s) on it. The Orange wire then can be routed and
"cut to fit" as required by the installer.
3.2 The "KEY ACTIVATED" positive 12 Volt source for the
ECM (Orange wire) is easily accessible.
- It is found below the hood hinge in the left rear corner (driver
side) of the engine compartment. A wiring loom located there by
the manufacturer provides an exposed ( 6 terminal - 4 used) female
type connector where diagnostic analysis equipment can be
connected.
- The 12 gauge dark blue wire terminates in this connector and
provides an uninterrupted source of positive 12 Volts DC when the
ignition switch is in both "starter" and "run"
positions and it is off when the ignition switch is turned
"off".
- Connect a male spade terminal to the Orange wire and plug it
directly into the connector. The Orange wire is now readily
removable if need be.
- Initiate PRE-LUBER Pre-Lubrication function. Ensure oil pressure
light goes out & oil pressure gauge is in safe pressure zone
before starting engine.
