Frequently
Asked Questions
|
| Q. |
What is a "Dry Start"? |
A.
|
Every time you start your engine there is a brief
moment before oil pressure is present in the engine. Experts
agree that this is when the majority of the mechanical wear
occurs. Dry Starts may occur in as little as a few
hours. |
| |
| Q. |
What is a "Cold Start"? |
A.
|
A "cold start" is a "dry start".
The
colder it gets, the longer it takes for oil to circulate
through the engine. This occurs anytime the engine
sits for 1 week or longer. |
| |
| Q. |
How much damage is done? |
A.
|
Experts believe that one start is equivalent to 500 miles
of normal driving. After a routine oil change it can
sometimes take up to one minute before oil pressure is
achieved. |
| |
Q.
|
When I start my engine, I let it
warm up slowly by idling before I drive away. Doesn't that
solve the problem? |
A.
|
No. The only way to totally eliminate "dry
start" or "cold start" wear is to achieve oil
pressure and lubrication before start-up. That's what the ESP-Luber does. |
| |
Q.
|
How effective are these oil
treatments and special additives? |
A.
|
The SAE has found that these oil additives and
"special coatings" won't eliminate metal to metal
contact at start-up. Only oil pressure can keep the
bearing separated enough to prevent metal to metal contact.
Residual oil is also not enough to protect the engine.
Remember, all of the tests done by SAE and McDonnell Douglas
were done on engines which all had residual oil present. |
| |
| Q. |
What about oil heaters and
synthetic oils? |
A.
|
One of the major benefits of oil heaters and synthetic
motor oils is improved oil pumpability in the winter. These
products reduce the winter time problem, but don't
really address the whole problem. You will still have a
"dry start"! In the winter, spring, summer and
fall, your engine will always be devoid of pressure and oil
at start-up. ESP-Luber eliminates the whole problem
entirely. |
| |
Q.
|
I've seen other products with
tests that claim to cut engine wear in half. Who should I
believe? |
A.
|
Ask for a copy of their tests. Are they "real
world" applications? How were the tests done? Who did
the testing? We will compare our tests with anyone's and
beat them everytime. |

Operational Questions
|
Q.
|
What is the difference between
Standard Pre-Lube kit and Turbo Plus Pre/Post Lubrication
kit? |
A.
|
At one time there were many. As of Fall 2006
ALL ESP-Luber kits featured both, Pre- and Post- cycles in the control modules.
As of Fall 2008 the ECM was fully adjustable and
digital. As of Winter 2008/09 the Turbo Plus
upgraded the Pump/Motor. It is now quieter during
operation, has internal electrical upgrades, and is water
resistant (do not submerge). |
| |
Q.
|
Does the ESP-Luber filter the oil
or can I add another filter to the ESP-Luber? |
A.
|
No, our system does not filter the oil. Another filter can
be added to the outlet line of the ESP-Luber, if desired.
We do offer an optional CFA (Custom oil Filter Adapter) to
direct your oil through the factory filter before it enters
the engine. |
| |
Q.
|
How many amps does the ESP-Luber
draw - hot and cold engines? |
A.
|
Hot, it draws 6-8 amps. At 70 degrees, it draws 9-11
amps. Cold, it draws 15 amps.(*Based off our
15 amp motor.) |
| |
| Q. |
Will it drain my battery when the
engine is off? |
A.
|
No. It will only drain about 20 milliamps. To make a comparison
- The electronic radios and clocks with memories will draw
anywhere from 20-40 milliamps. |
| |
Q.
|
As I am driving, can oil flow
back through the ESP-Luber and cause loss of pressure? |
A.
|
No. The kits have an external check valve included to prevent this
problem. We suggest installing the ECV in the pressure
side, close to the engine. |
| |
Q.
|
Is it safe to have the ESP-Luber
and engine running at the same time, or will it build too
much pressure? |
A.
|
The pressure is by-passed at 35+/- psi. There is no harm in
having both running. The ESP-Luber's Pre-
cycle will shut off
after 20 or 60 seconds depending upon your time
setting. |
| |
| Q. |
How big is the ESP-Luber
pump/motor? |
A.
|
It is 7 ¾" long, 3" high, and 7" wide (w/
fittings).
It weighs less than 6 lbs. Complete kits are about 12
lbs. |
| |
| Q. |
What kind of warranty does it
have? |
A.
|
The ESP-Luber has a 1-year limited warranty
on all parts. |
| |
Q.
|
What makes the ESP-Luber pump
different from ordinary pumps? |
A.
|
There are many types of pumps -- diaphragm, impeller,
mechanical, etc. The ESP-Luber pump is a custom designed and
patented ball bearing gear drive pump, capable of pumping
anything from diesel fuel to 75/90W oil (Severe Duty
system). Oil viscosity changes
dramatically with changes in temperature. No other pump that
we know of can do all of this and offer the kind of
durability the ESP-Luber pump does. |
